Tiptap Studio

Files and settings

Opening and saving documents, unsaved changes, and where settings are stored.

Open a document

Open a document as A with Open (⌘O, Ctrl+O on Windows and Linux), by dropping a file on the window, from Open's list of recent files (the last ten), or from the command line. On macOS you can also open a .json file with Tiptap Studio from Finder, or drop one on its Dock icon.

Without a file, the app opens a bundled sample document that shows headings, marks, a link, a list, a quote, a custom callout node, a rule and a code block.

Unsaved changes

A dot in the title bar means A has unsaved edits. Before anything replaces it (opening another file, a Document Server document, closing the window or quitting), the app asks: Save, Don't Save or Cancel.

Changes on disk

The app checks the open file every two seconds. If it changed on disk and you have no unsaved edits, it reloads silently. If you do, a banner offers Reload (take the file from disk) or Keep mine, and you can dismiss it.

Settings files

Settings live in one folder:

OSFolder
macOS~/Library/Application Support/tiptap-studio
Windows%APPDATA%\tiptap-studio
Linux$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/tiptap-studio, or ~/.config/tiptap-studio
FileContents
layout.jsonPane widths, hidden panes, the Source toggle and the window size
recent.jsonRecently opened files, newest first
servers.jsonDocument Server profiles: label, app id and URL, never the token

Delete layout.json or recent.json to reset them. Tokens are not in this folder: they are in the operating system's keychain, see Document Server.
