Tour
The window, Inspect and Diff mode, and the panes.
Two modes
The title bar switches between two modes:
- Inspect works on one document, called A: read it, edit it, validate it.
- Diff compares A with a second document, B, and lets you take B's changes into A. See Diff and merge.
Next to the mode switch, the title bar shows the file name, a dot when A has unsaved edits, and a summary. In Inspect mode that is the node count, the number of text nodes and the number of node types the app does not recognise. In Diff mode it is the change counts: additions, removals, edits, the total and how many changes you dismissed.
The toolbar
In both modes:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Open | Open a document as A. The arrow next to it lists recent files. |
| Save, Save as… | Write A to disk. |
| Undo, Redo | Step through your edits. |
| Server… | Browse a Tiptap Document Server. See Document Server. |
| Find box | Search with the query language. See Find. |
Inspect mode adds:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Copy JSON | Copies the whole document as pretty JSON. The button reads Copied for two seconds. |
| Source | Shows the JSON source instead of the rendered preview. |
| Schema | Load, reload or unload a schema. See Schema validation. |
Diff mode adds Open B…, Swap, Apply all to A, and the Only changed and Sync scroll checkboxes.
Panes
Inspect mode has three panes:
- Tree on the left: every node, with a summary per row. The header has buttons to expand or collapse everything.
- Preview in the middle: the document rendered. Click a block to select it. Source (⌘3, Ctrl+3 on Windows and Linux) swaps it for the pretty-printed JSON.
- Inspector on the right: the selected node. See Inspect.
Diff mode has four: the change list, tree A, tree B, and a before/after inspector.
Drag a divider to resize a pane and double-click it to reset its width. ⌘1 hides or shows the left pane (the tree, or the change list in Diff mode) and ⌘2 the inspector. Pane widths and hidden panes (kept separately for each mode), the Source toggle and the window size are remembered between launches.
